Hopefully Derbyshire Constabulary Will Consider Prosecution?

This was posted by Linjoy Wildlife Sanctuary & Rescue (Midlands)

lnsoahredThis fox was reported to us this morning after he was in distress in Derby. He had been seen on camera walking in circles in a car park before a member of the public attempted to deliberately set their dogs upon him. When a staff member at a local shop screamed at the guy, he responded with ‘it needs to be put out it’s misery’. He has been reported to the police.

The fox made its way into the courtyard of a local business then wedged itself down the back of a wall until we arrived.
On admission the fox was clearly agitated and had nystagmus, which is involuntary repetitive movement of the eyes. This could be down to a number of things - head trauma, inner ear disease or fitting brought on by toxoplasmosis.

The fox is currently on an antibiotic that covers toxoplasmosis as well as other bacteria and also anti inflammatory medication.

His condition will be reviewed on Monday and X-rays and further investigations will be done depending on his progress.

Be very interested to hear what happens to the man with dogs as that would be classed as a wildlife crime. If nothing happens please let me know and I will be sure to contact Derbyshire police if there is a crime number given. I'm known for fox research but I also run the UK National Carnivore advisory and these cases need following up.
