Request To UK Wildlife/Fox Rescues

Hello.

I am reaching out to fox rescues and wildlife centres in the hope that they may help contribute to a new data base –any questions please ask.

I am currently gathering hair samples from foxes around the UK and while this is problematical it may be far more possible with young cubs or foxes being treated or kept safe until release. What I am trying to get hold of are hair samples –if at all possible with the hair root- that can be analysed and tell us more about the UK fox population.  If you can help here is what I require:

1.     A separate hair sample from each cub or fox in a small plastic bag or a separate hair sample for each in an envelope.

2.     Please mark the sample with the name of the cub and the date the sample was taken. This helps us identify any samples for labs and will make more sense when results are received.

3.     If you can help then please, once the samples are sent, if you could take a photo of the foxes the samples were taken from identifying each one that gives as good a record as we can make of them –photos can be sent my email – blacktowercg@hotmail.com -  or messenger.

The address samples need to be sent to is:

Terry Hooper-Scharf

REQUEST ADDRESS

That is it and I will confirm when samples are received and once we have analysis done all results will be sent to contributors.

As I noted, this will give us the opportunity to learn far more about UK foxes as well as to gather data that we hope can one day be used to get far more legal protection.

If you can help please let me know at your convenience.

Terry
