Was This Fox Poisoned?

Apologies for the photo but it demonstrates what we are looking at in some fox deaths and especially from Bristol as part of the Fox Deaths Project.

Firstly, this photo is nothing -you ought to see the hi-res ones in the post mortem reports. Definitely not for the squeamish!
The woman who contacted me believed that this fox, fed regularly and around a year old, had been poisoned when she found it dead. There had been threats from a local toward foxes and badgers.
This is not a victim of poisoning.
What we see from the head shot is extreme jaundice and (not included her) a wound around the anus which is severe and likely resulted in sepsis and the jaundice.
Had we gotten to this fox on the day it was found -or the photos to show us its condition- then this would have been taken as part of the Project.
So one lost to us but it does show what we are looking at and at least can reassure that this is not a poisoning case.
