Firstly a warning to any fox feeders out there or people with foxes coming into their gardens -town, city or country.
We have seen escaped silver fox pets lose limbs and red foxes the same (if not slowly killed) through snares. Those using snares say they only do so on private property where, ass that British law is, says they can be used. However they kill and injure pet cats, dogs and pother wildlife. We do KNOW that snares are being set up illegally to catch and kill foxes for their fur.
We also know that there are hunt groups and others snatching fox cubs and if they can adult foxes. Why I shall leave to your imagination. When I had foxes here (no longer) I had trail cams out and I still use these for security and watching the hedgehogs. The fox used to pass behind a small oak tree surrounded by a bush and I suspect that fox snatchers thought there was a den. Exaggeration?
Sonny Jim here took 12 seconds to enter the garden and check behind the oak tree and noticed the camera but thought it hadn't caught him. Paid no attention to the house just straight to where he wanted and was then gone.
Really, I would suggest fox feeders that do not have cameras get them and set up one to spot intruders. Photos were passed on to the police so they are aware.
Now onto something I find shows the desperation of hunt supporters who seed members in wildlife groups. Firstly, You Tube andthe "Cat V Fox" videos in which "cat fights off fox" and "fox attacks cat" are used as titles. In a number of these it is quite obvious that the start of the video has been cut and edited for a "better" feel to it. In most cases you have a cat that has obviously snatched food thrown to the fox -the fox actually looks up at the window and the person(s) videoing.
In none of the videos is the fox the aggressor: there is one in which the fox is getting very territorial with a cat but does not attack but uses warning lunges. Fox aggression? Well we see the cat run off but also a second fox that looks as though it is just watching and then enters a hedgerow which raises the question of whether there were cubs present.
Two giggling morons show a fox sniffing about the garden with a cat which "it wants to eat the cat!" or so the giggling morons say as they video the event. The fox is chased by the cat but again we see no start to the video but what the fox is doing indicates that something (food) must have been thrown out and as usual a cat got it. If the couple were so concerned for their cat WHY did they stand giggling and videoing and not go to the assistance of their pet?
Fakery.
Rather like showing a dead fox hanging up and getting your child to step back and then take a photo to make the fox look bigger -"Giant fox killed!" headlines backed by a vet who it turns up does work for the local hunt. Surprise. Placing something closer to the camera and a person further away is THE oldest photography trick around -on other subjects I have examples going back to the 1800s.
We then have people going on to groups who report their cat went missing and that it was killed by a car on one site but on another they watched a fox kill it. Challenged as to why they just watched the post is retracted. "I saw two foxes on my cctv tearing my pet cat to shreds!" Can we see the evidence then? Oh...no more from them. "Lots of cats have gone missing in my area -all taken by fox" -which area? Whose cats? Oh, comments blocked.
This is sheer desperation from people who are unstable -hence fox hunting. I have several hundred fox hunting books going back to the early 1800s and in each and every one of them they declare their "fun" as just that -sporting fun. What I discovered while researching the Red Paper: Canids has been added to and I will not describe certain events because it involves psychopathic behaviour.
We have a Prime Minister in Boris Johnson that admits fox hunting gave him "sexual gratification" and that about sums it up.
I would urge everyone not to fall for fake stories online or printed by newspapers but to actually study foxes -buy books as there are a few out there that are not expensive. Foxes are not going to sneak past two parents (through french windows next to the TV) and two "aggressive" house dogs, go upstairs to bite a baby then retrace its route totally unseen. If the baby was bitten I would look at the two aggressive dogs.
We still know so little about foxes but we do know some traits and behaviour and no fox is going to attack a house cat its own size or bigger and risk injury -there is plenty more food out there and studies have shown that a threat from a fox to a cat is at the very bottom of a list mainly containing humans and what they do and other cats.
THINK. LEARN FOR YOURSELF.
