I do seriously believe that wildlife in the UK is ultimately doomed and not just because of the constant corruption and greed behind trying to continually snatch Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Green Sites for building. No, the problem is with people as a whole.
Maybe go fight in Ukraine...but foxes do not shoot back do they?
Well over half the population of UK badgers killed based on, again, corruption and greed and very bad science -the badger is seen buy all experts outside of the UK as a "scapegoat species". The Labour government has broken 99% of its electoral promises including on wildlife and halting the badger cull.
The "animal loving British public".... well, they have been noticeable for not giving a damn "someone else will sort it out" -they will not. Over 300, 000 badgers killed -even groups tested and known to be bovine TB free because there is a quota and money to be paid out to the thugs who are doing the killing for profit and fun.
adults and cubs makes no difference -it's the 'fun' of the kill
Every night around towns and cities men and women put on their cammo gear and go out to shoot whatever wildlife they can find and that includes "domestic" animals on low nights. It is bragged and boasted about on shooter web pages. There is no reason or call for men and women to possess fire arms and roam the countryside killing whatever they want and some groups feel they have impunity thanks to their ranks including off duty police officers.
By the 2030s foxes and badgers will be so rare that in many areas of the UK they will be extinct or rare (they already are in some areas). What will the public say when extinction happens? "How sad. How did they let that happen?" No: how did you let that happen!
Hedgehogs, despite claims that the population is steadily increasing are not. They will probably face extinction by the 2030s and it will be the British Extinction Period of 1860 all over again. We lost wild cats by the 1860s. We lost red squirrels, hares and many deer and the solution? Import more. Killed them off then blame another species and kill off more.
The UK is the epitome of a country that creates a false myth of itself. Animal lovers. The biggest myth of all.
Let's take Bristol as an example. hundreds of foxes, badgers, deer and otter run over every year by drivers and I have only known one driver stop to report the accident. Everyone else continues to drive on not giving a damn if the animal is dead or left suffering and dying -hundreds of animals every year. Speed bumps? Wildlife crossing signs? How about wildlife under or overpasses since humans have built roads over the wildlife traditional routes? Nope. "It would cost money" -even the Green Party Council offer that as an excuse.
Today, a post to help track down a man who picked up a very young fox cub three days ago and posted photos before deleting them was also deleted on the group it was posted to. The only real comment "Nothing to do with me let him stink his house out". Really?
Photos posted on Face Book of dogs running over a badger sett while the walkers took their photos. I posted about this on three groups and noted that it was illegal, etc and guess what? Post deleted on each group.
Another group posted the location of foxes with cubs and wanted to promote it more pu7blicly and my warning about danger to the foxes.... throw it out.
These are not the actio0ns of people who love animals and wildlife but people who are anti-wildlife.
For the very few good people that there are the vast majority do not give a damn -even on so called wildlife groups.
And then we have the supressed Bristol fox deaths report that APHA, Bristol University, etc seem to support (along with threats and personal attacks on myself and my business).
Does this all sound like a nation of animal lovers? After 50 years a naturalist I have seen things seem to improve but in reality it was all virtue signalling and not real attempts to save and conserve wildlife. Virtue signalling draws in a lot of press and media attention and, of course, money and everyone wants the money.
A country that sits back and allows its wildlife to be killed off is a country that should never play at "re-introducing". The species is gone and all the organisations and individuals are doing is soaking up money from saps. Why does the big money not go to wildlife rescues and hospitals that really care for sick and injured animals and birds? Oh -not "sexy" enough and there is no profit in it.
To those who do work in wildlife rescue and get covered in blood, mud, shit and just about everything else as well as get minor injuries because they care all I can say is THANK YOU. It is just a pity the rest of the country does not give a damn from government down to the "great British public".
